Apparently, Kelowna Mayor Sharon Shepherd can be bought. And, she hopes she'll fetch a good price.

The mayor and her husband, Dr. Michael Shepherd, will be auctioned off during the 2nd Annual SPCA Dinner and Date Auction Friday, October 12.

"Sharon is such a great sport," says event organizer, Darcy Nybo. "As Kelowna has grown, so has the need to shelter more and more animals."

She says approximately 26 men and women from all walks of life have agreed to be auctioned off during the evening.

Nybo says the event raised about $8,500 last year. The goal this year is $10,000.

"The SPCA offices need to be renovated. It's going to be a big project, but when it's done the cats will have a new room with windows and the offices will be where the lobby is now."

The SPCA Dinner and Date Auction will take place at Chances Lounge on Springfield Road, beginning at 7 p.m.
