An act of arson has destroyed some very valuable records in Vernon.
Just after 5:30 p.m. on September 6, at least one person broke into the records room of the Vernon Jubilee Hospital and set two small fires.
Fire chief Johnny Lysholm says the fires were both small, but they did activate the sprinkler system.
“The fires did do some damage, they destroyed about one percent of all the paper records in the building. Everything else suffered water damage from the sprinkler system,” says Lysholm.
He says a restoration company has been called in to start restore the water damaged records.
“It’s concerning that someone would break in to set these fires. We found a door forced open so we know someone did break in. The records contain valuable information but they have no monetary value.”
The RCMP are investigating.
