A Kelowna woman will have to serve at least 10 years in prison after being found guilty of second degree murder.

Ronda Black has been sentenced to life in prison for the 1998 stabbing death of her husband Keith.

Black was on trial for first degree murder, but the judge convicted her of second degree because the Crown failed to prove she intended to kill her husband when she stabbed him in the neck while he slept.

However, the judge did believe that Black confessed to undercover police, despite the defense's argument that the accused knew she was dealing with cops posing as crime bosses.

Black also tried to pin the blame on her father who died of cancer prior to the trial, but the judge threw out that argument.

Black must serve 10 years of her sentence before she can apply for parole.

She did not address the court before being escorted to prison and no family members of the accused were present during Tuesday's sentencing.
