A change of mind will make for a much better event.
Plan B, a professional skateboard team, will be performing at the Penticton Youth Park Thursday.
The group recently caused some concern at City Hall when it refused to wear helmets during the demonstration. The decision didn't sit well with the city, which removed all support for the event, including bleachers for the audience, more washroom facilities and power outlets for music.
Director of Parks, Recreation and Culture, John Kirbyson, says they received word late Monday from Plan B’s representatives that they had changed their minds and will agree to wearing helmets.
“We are of course very pleased that these athletes seem to recognize what sort of influence they have over the impressionable young people who will be coming to watch them,” says Kirbyson.
He says although the short notice doesn’t give them much time, they are still planning to support the event as best they can.
“I think it’s going to be a very exciting event for Penticton and we are happy the group agreed to wear helmets so we can support them,” says Kirbyson.
The demonstration takes place Thursday at the Youth Park near the S.S. Sicamous.
