Human remains found after fire on property in Mission

Body found following fire

The province's Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has been called in after a body was discovered in the remnants of a fire on a property in Mission over the weekend.

Investigators believe the fire may have been deliberately set.

The fire broke out very early Saturday morning on the property in the 30800-block of Gunn Avenue in Mission.

A body was discovered once the fire had been extinguished.

Police say circumstances surrounding the fire and the body are suspicious, and called IHIT to take over the lead in the investigation.

While IHIT and other police agencies work on their investigation, the BC Coroners Service is also running a concurrent investigation into identity and cause of death.

“We are in the beginning stages of the investigation and we need witnesses and drivers with dashcam video to come forward,” says Sgt. Frank Jang of IHIT.

“Our priority now is to determine the identity of our victim.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the IHIT information line at 1-877-551- IHIT (4448), or by email at [email protected].

Should you wish to remain anonymous, please contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
