Dionne Warwick knew she wouldn't last long on The Masked Singer U.S., because her voice is too "distinctive."
The I Say a Little Prayer for You star was unveiled in the latest episode of the TV program on Wednesday night, after performing This Will Be (An Everlasting Love). In a first for this season of the show, almost all the judges guessed it was Dionne under the elaborate Mouse costume, with Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Nicole Scherzinger and guest panellist Gabriel Iglesias correctly identifying the singer. Final judge Ken Jeong thought it was Tina Turner, but after being unmasked, Dionne admitted she had a feeling her iconic voice would be her downfall on the show.
"I think because of my distinctive voice, people recognized me immediately," she told Variety. "This is the only thing I can't disguise, my singing voice."
She follows in the footsteps of Lil Wayne, Drew Carey, Chaka Khan and Tony Hawk, who have all been unmasked on this season of the program.
Dionne added it was after seeing Gladys Knight and Patti LaBelle compete in earlier seasons of the show that she decided to take part herself.
And despite her early exit, she said: "Everybody was wonderful, it was a kick, it was something different for me to do," she said. "Trying to figure out where to put the microphone was a task. But it was fun. I had a good time."
In a pre-taped interview ahead of taking to the stage on Wednesday's episode, Dionne added: "The stage is like my second home, and I'm having a ball up there. So I feel more determined than ever to stay anonymouse."
She also revealed that she took some persuasion to be the Mouse, as she has something of a phobia of the rodents.
