Cookie Days in Canada celebrates Girl Guides

Girl Guide cookies are back

Girl Guides across Canada wrapped up the first weekend of 'Cookie Days in Canada' sales on Sunday.

Sales will continue throughout the month as the signature fundraiser helps girls "be everything they wants to be" by encouraging them to build life skills in outdoor adventure, financial literacy, mental health, advocacy, and more.

Fall mint chocolate cookies are being sold at locations across the region, including Kelowna, West Kelowna and Kamloops.

Lake Country Girl Guides leader Vanessa, who was stationed at Kelowna's Canadian Tire on Sunday afternoon, says their group is very grateful for the support of the community.

"In the last couple of years through cookie sales, we’ve managed to buy a whole bunch of camp equipment and gear supplying our unit with tents and shelters... we're hoping we can sell out of these cookies this weekend to do more of that."

The group meets once a week at Camp Arbuckle in Lake Country. Volunteer leader Tammy says they are keen to involve more people in what the organization is doing to equip young girls.

"We’re always looking for new girls and also adult member volunteers to join our organization. Girl Guides Canada is an incredible organisation that helps empower girls to understand their place within themselves, within the community and within their world. By volunteering it’s been a great way for me to spend time with my own daughters as well as to give back to the community so we’re always looking for new volunteers to come and join that."
