Police investigating as man dies in wake of Prince George fire

Man dies in wake of blaze

A 40-year-old man has died as a result of his injuries after an explosion and house fire Saturday in Prince George.

Police say four adult males were taken to hospital with injuries. The other three are expected to survive. A dog did not survive the fire.

Officers arrived minutes after the fire was reported about 9:15 p.m. to find the home fully engulfed.

They provided emergency care to the injured and evacuated nearby residences.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation and the site has been secured.

Witnesses and video evidence show the occupants of the house were handling large quantities of gasoline.

Fire investigators are on the scene today with members of the RCMP's forensic identification section to determine whether the incident is of a criminal nature.

The residence is well known to police and has been the subject of police investigations in the past.
