Shots reported downtown

Police investigated a report of gunshots near Rowcliffe Avenue near downtown Kelowna Thursday night, but officers turned up nothing.

Just after 10:30 p.m., police were called to the area, and spoke with several people who had heard two or three loud bangs they believed had been gunshots.

One of the callers said the officers arrived carrying “big guns.”

Const. Lesley Smith of the Kelowna RCMP says police searched the area extensively on foot and stopped “a number” of vehicles, but they found nothing suspicious.

“Police were unable to locate an exact location of the occurrence and could not determine the origin of the sounds heard,” said Const. Smith.

“No further reports were received of this nature.”
