A man facing 10 charges stemming from a crime spree across Kelowna last June will remain in custody until his trial, after he was denied bail Thursday.

Stephen Skinner was arrested June 17, more than four hours after he led police on a chase from the Reid's Corner area of Kelowna to a home in Rutland.

Police were called to the home on Arab Road about 4 p.m. for a report of a stabbing, but the suspect allegedly stole a car and left the area, before RCMP arrived.

An officer spotted the stolen vehicle sometime later and attempted to pull over the suspect before the driver crashed into a fire hydrant on Bryden Road near Highway 33. Police say the man then ran to a nearby home, and barricaded himself inside for four hours.

A police helicopter circled the house until the RCMP Emergency Response Team arrived and arrested the man at gunpoint.

A bail hearing was held for Skinner on Thursday in Kelowna court, and he appeared by video feed from the Okanagan Correctional Centre.

Justice Monica McParland's reasons for denying Skinner bail are covered under a publication ban, as are the details of Thursday's proceedings. A trial date has not been set yet.

Skinner's charges include aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and flight from police, among others.
