Kelowna's outdoor ice rink was inspiration for a Vernon councillor to suggest one here.

It would be a fitting use of the land, considering an arena stood on that spot for 70 years.

City of Vernon staff will investigate the cost of setting up a temporary outdoor ice rink on the old Civic Arena property.

"I see fire pits, food trucks, parents and children with hot chocolate in their hands," said Coun. Dalvir Nahal.

Nahal said she is basing her vision on the outdoor rink on Kelowna's waterfront.

"It’s an open space concept versus the enclosed one we have (at the recreation complex). It's something that will drive people downtown and create positive energy."
