Bertram fire false alarm

UPDATE: 3:15 p.m.

A fire reported in the Bertram Creek area just south of Kelowna turned out to be a false alarm.

Fire information officer Madison Smith says a three-man initial attack crews from Penticton patrolled the area, but found nothing.

The crew is heading back to base.


UPDATE: 1:25 p.m.

The BC Wildfire Service is trying to confirm the existence of a fire in the area around Bertram Creek south of Kelowna.

A fire was reported to the Kamloops Fire Centre Thursday morning, however, an initial attack crews dispatched from Penticton has reached the area, but has yet to spot the fire.

The BC Wildfire Service is responding to what is being described as a small fire just south of Kelowna in the Bertram Creek area.

The fire appears to be burning between Okanagan Mountain and Myra-Bellevue provincial parks.

This was part of an area devastated by the Okanagan Mountain Park fire, which destroyed more than 220 homes in the Upper Mission 16 years ago today.

Fire information officer Madison Smith says a three-person initial attack crew is en route from Penticton.

Smith says they will know more once the crew arrives and can assess the situation.
