New bus route to launch

B.C. Transit is getting ready to launch a long-awaited bus route between Penticton and Kelowna.

Buses will start running on the new route 70 on Sept. 3, which will provide two weekday round trips between Kelowna, Summerland and Penticton. The service expansion will also see two additional Monday trips to improve connections to other areas in the South Okanagan-Similkameen.

Since the departure of Greyhound, there has been no bus service between Penticton and Kelowna with the exception of a single B.C. Transit trip on Mondays.

Fares on the new route 70 will be $5 per trip.

As a part of the service changes, the old route 60 on Mondays between Kelowna and Osoyoos has been discontinued. It will be replaced by route 40, which will run two round trips on Mondays between Osoyoos and Penticton.

Other service adjustments include:

  • The route 40 Osoyoos/Penticton will follow a fixed route in Penticton and Oliver, and the by-request stop in Kaleden will move to the fire hall
  • Implementing schedule adjustments to the route 50 Penticton/Princeton to integrate with the new 70 Penticton/Kelowna
