Arrest in hit-and-run

 

UPDATE: 9:20 p.m.

Kelowna RCMP have confirmed that they are investigating a hit-and-run incident on the corner of Bernard Avenue and Lakeview Street this evening. 

Cpl. Jesse O'Donaghey said the vehicle investigators believe was involved in the crash has been located, and an arrest has been made. 

Officers are examining the scene for more evidence. No update on the pedestrian's condition is available from RCMP at this time. 

Any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police and motorists who may have dash cam footage are urged to contact Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300. 


UPDATE: 9  p.m.

One witness is reporting that the man struck by a vehicle on Saturday evening in Kelowna was tossed in the air by the impact, and that the vehicle did not stop.

Further unconfirmed reports from witnesses indicate the man is alive and in hospital, and that the driver may have been apprehended.

Conflicting reports have come in as to the age and description of the victim. 

No update from police has been provided yet. 


ORIGINAL: 7:30 p.m.

Multiple Castanet readers have reported that a pedestrian may have been struck on Bernard Avenue not far from Richmond Street shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday.

One witness, Heather, was driving onto Bernard Ave. when she saw an older white male lying on the street and not moving. 

"You could tell that he'd been hit by a vehicle. He was lying sort of next to the sidewalk ... there was no movement whatsoever," she said. "There were a number of people there that were hysterical."

Ambulances were on scene. Castanet has reached out to RCMP for more information.
