Police swarmed an area near a Richmond gas station Tuesday afternoon, and one person was taken to hospital in critical condition.

RCMP said they were not yet able to confirm what happened on a transit bus at the Domo gas station near No. 3 and Cambie roads about 2 p.m.

Witnesses report as many as 17 police cars on the scene and officers in tactical gear.

Peter Chen watched the incident unfold from the platform of the Aberdeen Canada Line station.

He says he saw a man being arrested after he stepped off the bus.

“He was ordered to get on the ground by officers armed with what looked like rifles,” Chen said.

“I heard the sirens before the bus even arrived, so I think the bus driver must have called ahead.”

The few passengers left on the bus were escorted off by police, along with driver.
