Victim feared for his life

A Lower Mainland airport worker is in hospital after being swarmed and beaten by six men.

Amit Prasad, who works at the Vancouver International Airport, says was beaten as he left work Monday.

Prasad spoke to CTV News from his hospital bed Friday. He says he has three fractures in his spine and one in his face.

“I thought they were going to kill me, so I had to fight back … They kicked me in the back, and I fell to the ground. I fought back and then they ran away,” said Prasad.

Prasad is part of the ground crew that handles luggage and tows planes in and out of gates at YVR.

His employer and Richmond RCMP confirm the assault took place. YVR is working with police and do not believe there is a threat to the public.

RCMP stopped a suspect vehicle as it was leaving the area and another suspect was arrested in Surrey. Police said the 20 year-old is known to them, adding additional arrests may be forthcoming.

Prasad has now has started a GoFundMe page.
