Homeless emboldened

An Alexis Park area family is growing more concerned about the boldness of the homeless population that transit through the Vernon neighbourhood to and from the downtown.

The couple, who asked not to be identified, tells Castanet that a couple walked right into their yard a few weeks ago.

"I walked around the corner, and they were right at the gate to our backyard. When I asked what they were doing, they said they wanted to pick cherries from our tree. But they didn't have anything to pick them into, so I thought maybe they were casing the house," said the homeowner.

"Then, on Thursday evening, a disheveled man knocked on the back door of our house. He came right through the gate and asked if he could take our recycling," he added.

"I wasn't home from work, and my wife got a pretty good scare and just told him to take the cans and go. We will be beefing up our security measures. This is ridiculous."
