Man killed in crash

Drive BC reports that all lanes in the vicinity of the incident are now open.


UPDATE 12:10 p.m.

DriveBC reports one eastbound lane is closed and both westbound lanes are now open at the scene of a fatal crash near Falkland on Highway 97.

Expect up to 20-minute delays.


UPDATE 10:47 a.m.

A driver of a pickup truck that left the highway was killed when he was ejected from the vehicle.

Falkland RCMP and emergency services responded to a report of a fatal collision on Highway 97 near Whispering Pines Frontage Road, east of Falkland on Monday at 5:35 a.m.

"Upon arrival it was determined that an eastbound black pickup truck failed to negotiate a curve and left the highway. The lone occupant, a man in his 60s, was ejected from the vehicle and died as a result of the collision," said Cpl. Mike Halskov, media relations officer with E Division Traffic Services, in a release.

North Okanagan Traffic Services and the BC Coroners' Service are investigating the cause of the crash and are appealing for witnesses to contact police, Halskov said.

Anyone with information regarding this fatal crash, including any dash-camera footage, is asked to contact NOTS in Vernon at 250-260-7132.

Drive BC is reporting a vehicle incident on Hwy. 97 north of Vernon.

The incident occurred between Salmon River Road and Kneller Road and the lanes affected run for 4.2 km, 12 to 16 km east of Falkland.

They said to expect 20-minute delays as there are two lanes open.
