Single lane open after fire

UPDATE 12:25 p.m.

Single-lane traffic was moving by mid-morning along the Trans-Canada Highway between Kamloops and Chase, after being stalled for hours by a blazing transport truck.

The fire ignited a power pole, raising concerns that wires could come down across the highway and officials also say the B-C Wildfire Service was put on standby as a precaution.

Chase Fire Chief Brian Lauzon says the blaze occurred between the boundaries of his department and the neighbouring one, so the flames were being left to burn themselves out.

The truck driver was not hurt and a cause of the fire is under investigation.

UPDATE: 10:15 a.m.

DriveBC reports Highway 1 is now open to single-lane, alternating traffic at the scene of a vehicle fire near Chase this morning.

Expect delays due to congestion.

ORIGINAL: 6:20 a.m.

The Trans-Canada Highway is closed in both directions Monday morning, west of Chase.

A vehicle fire between Willow Road and Chief Neskonlith Drive forced the closure.

There is no detour at this time, and no estimated time of reopening.
