Cancelled show, free festival

Those who were left holding tickets to the Magic! concert in Kelowna's Waterfront Park that never happened last week are in luck – they may be able to snag free tickets to the upcoming Denim on the Diamond event.

Last Wednesday, concert promoter Brandon Cochran announced he had cancelled the concert scheduled for Island Stage Friday night. He cited low tickets sales.

Cochran said those with tickets from out of town would be refunded, but locals would instead by honoured at a future concert at Island Stage in 2020.

On Tuesday, organizers of Denim on the Diamond offered free tickets to their one-day music festival at King Stadium on Aug. 31 to the first 100 Magic! ticket holders who reach out by email.

Festival organizers Kurt Jory and Mitch Carefoot were planning on attending the now-cancelled Magic! concert themselves.

“We share in the frustration. Our goal is to produce and support live music in Kelowna, therefore we don’t want this experience to discourage people from attending other local events in Kelowna and purchasing tickets in advance,” said Jory.

Those who don't make the first 100 cutoff, will still be offered a discount on Denim on the Diamond tickets.

“Our Denim team is fortunate to be in a strong position with ticket sales this year, so when we heard the news we felt compelled to do something positive,” said Carefoot.

This will be the second Denim on the Diamond event at King Stadium, after a successful inaugural year in 2018. This year, James Barker Band, Madeline Merlo, Leaving Thomas, The Harpoonist & the Axe Murderer, and Lucky Monkey will be taking the stage.

Those interested in taking Jory and Carefoot up on their offer can reach them by email
