'Royal' rescued seal pups

Two rescued seal pups have been named after Britain's duke and duchess of Sussex by staff at Vancouver Aquarium.

Harbour seals Meghan Mackerel and Prince Herring were found individually on Sidney Island last week and in a marsh near Crescent Beach in Surrey. They're named after royals Meghan and Harry.

The preemie pups are being cared for by staff at the aquarium's Marine Mammal Rescue Centre after being abandoned by their mothers, CTV News reports.

"Herring in particular was in critical condition through the weekend, but his condition is improving," an aquarium' statement said.

"Mothers will often leave their pups on shore while they forage for food; they will usually make it back. We ask those who find a seal pup not to touch it and to keep their pets away," said centre manager Emily Johnson.

If you see a marine mammal in distress, stay back and call 604-258-7325 (SEAL).
