Aggressive bear warning

Burnaby RCMP were helping track an “aggressive” black bear on Burnaby Mountain, Monday.

Police tweeted about 4:10 p.m. that officers were working with conservation officers to find the bear.

The tweet didn’t say how it was determined the bear was “aggressive” or if that involved human contact, but CTV Vancouver is reporting that the bear approached people having a picnic in an agressive way.

“We have received a report of an aggressive black bear on Burnaby Mountain and are currently working along with @_BCCOS to locate the bear and determine next steps. Expect to see a police presence in the area of the Trans Canada Trail, Ridgeview, Burnwood and Gnome's Home trail,” read the tweet.

“Be vigilant if using any trails on Burnaby Mountain, and if you see a black bear in the area of Trans Canada, Ridgeview, Burnwood or Gnome's Home trail. please contact police immediately.”
