A youth is believed to be dead and another is in critical condition after a tree fell on a Vancouver Island camp Wednesday afternoon.
CTV News reports emergency crews were initially called to Camp Barnard outside Sooke for a report of a downed tree with a boy trapped beneath.
At least one person was rushed away in an ambulance while rescuers attempted CPR on another person on a nearby river bank. The coroner arrived shortly after 6 p.m.
Winds in the area Wednesday hit 80 kilometres per hour.
The camp offers wilderness camping and a variety of programs for children and young adults.
