UPDATE: 9:50 p.m.

One man is in police custody after a crime spree in the Arab Road area on Monday afternoon led to a lengthy standoff between RCMP and a suspect on Bryden Road.

A man was taken into custody shortly before 9:30 p.m. just moments after police deployed two flash bangs.

Events began unfolding about 4 p.m. in the 100 block of Arab Road when a property owner was reportedly stabbed when he confronted the suspect.

Moments later, the suspect allegedly carjacked a vehicle and fled the area.

Both the stabbing victim and the female driver were taken to hospital with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

“Kelowna RCMP front line officers spotted the stolen vehicle and with public safety in mind, engaged in attempts to stop the vehicle,” says Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

“The suspect abandoned the stolen vehicle after it collided with a fire hydrant on Bryden Road near Highway 33. Officers chased the suspect on foot, who ran into and barricaded himself inside an empty nearby home.”‎

The vehicle involved in the chase was abandoned in a construction site. It has since been towed away.
