Fork lift burns at mill

UPDATE 9:30 a.m.

Penticton Fire Department deputy chief Chris Forster says the fire at Greenwood Forest products this morning can be attributed to a forklift.

When fire crews arrived shortly before 5 a.m., they opened the doors of the mill to large clouds of thick black smoke.

“So we got our ventilation fans in place and hose line… once we cleared out most of the smoke we could see it was a forklift on fire.”

Forster says the building’s sprinkler system had actually extinguished most of the fire. Damage was limited to the fork lift and water damage by the sprinklers.
