ORIGINAL: 2 p.m.

Jonathan Garrick took advantage of ideal conditions to grab the clubhouse lead midway through the second round of the GolfBC Championship at Gallagher's Canyon Golf and Country Club.

Garrick fired a seven-under par 64 Friday morning to finish 36 holes at 11-under 131.

He's three shots better than Yannik Paul and four up on three golfers, including first-round leader Jake Knapp, who begins his second round later this afternoon.

Scoring was better for golfers who teed off in the morning on Thursday, as those players avoided gusty afternoon winds.

Those who fought the wind in the afternoon found conditions much more calm Friday morning.

Garrick, a 25-year-old Chicago native fired seven birdies, including six on the front side, an eagle and two bogeys during his round of 64.

Paul, From Germany, blistered the opening nine, rolling in five birdies and an eagle on nine for a seven-under 29.

He was one-over on the back nine after a three-putt double bogey on 13.

The second round concludes early this evening, when the field will be cut to the low 60 and ties.

The tournament wraps up Sunday afternoon.
