Exhibit to show Rail Trail art

The Arts Council of North Okanagan (ACNO) is hosting the inaugural Okanagan Rail Trail Art Exhibit on Friday, May 31.

During the Vernon Bike Festival, 32 artists converged along 32 kms of the Okanagan Rail Trail between Coldstream and Lake Country for a day of painting 'en plein air.'

"After hiking and biking to their favourite spots with easels and arts supplies in tow, artists began to sketch and paint their personal renditions of the Okanagan landscape," the ACNO said in a release.

"Throughout the day they conversed with cyclists and other patrons of the trail and at least two artists found themselves giving painting lessons to passersby. As the day came to a close some paintings were framed on-the-spot in true plein air fashion, while other images went back to the studio as inspiration for new works of art. Now the time has come to show off these creations."

The exhibit of these finished works will be held at the Vernon Community Arts Centre at the Polson Park gallery, 2704A Highway 6, in Vernon. The exhibit runs Friday, May 31 to Tuesday, June 11. The Arts Centre is open Monday to Thursday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
