An ATV accident on Vancouver Island has claimed the life a 23-year-old man.

Emergency crews were called to a logging road near the intersection of South Forks Road and Nanaimo Lakes Road Sunday at 2 a.m.
 
They found a man suffering from what appears to be life-threatening injuries. He was rushed to hospital and then airlifted to Vancouver, where he was pronounced dead at 7 a.m.

CTV News reports that police say the man was out for a late-night ride with friends and lost control of his vehicle and was thrown from his ATV.

"His friends, who were operating a side-by-side UTV, managed to carry him to the nearby road and called 911."

The investigation into the death will continue.
