Hawk eyes, claws on job

Victoria has come up with a unique and totally natural way to cope with unwanted birds in their city.

City planners are using raptors to discourage nuisance birds like seagulls, pigeons, and geese from nesting in downtown Victoria buildings.

CTV News is reporting the pilot project will run for the next three months and a handler will also have to be hired to manage and oversee the project.

The trained hawk will be taken around Victoria to visit rooftops and buildings to discourage urban birds from setting up nests.

Other methods have been tried and failed, including wire netting and anti-roosting spikes.

Other cities like Kelowna have struggled with unwanted birds and some airports have been successful using raptors to scare off urban birds.
