YVR rejects privacy ads

A B.C.-based internet privacy group is calling foul after Vancouver’s airport rejected ads about privacy rights at border crossings.

The ads point out border agents have the power to ask to look through your phone, with the ads designed for the end of the Skytrain line as people enter YVR

“Our most personal, sensitive information is contained on our phones, but our information is given no more rights at the border than a bag of clothes,” OpenMedia privacy campaigner Victoria Henry told CTV News.

"The information we are providing has been legally vetted by trustworthy sources, and is in alignment with recommendations put forward by Canada’s Ethics committee,” she said, adding most people do not know their rights when dealing with border agents.

A spokesperson with the Airport Authority told CTV News it determined the ads do "not serve all of our stakeholders.”

“It also has potential to add undue stress to the travel experience,” it added.
