Van load of gear stolen

She has been singing since she was five years old, but Tanya Kohlmeyer is ready to hang up her microphone.

That is if someone had not stolen it.

The Enderby resident had thousands of dollars worth of equipment stolen from her van over the weekend, and she and her Deep Creek bandmates do not have the money to replace it.

“They hit our van and took all of our music gear, everything,” said Kohlmeyer, adding the equipment was locked in a van with tinted windows parked next to her home.

Among the stolen items were thousands of dollars worth of cables, sound boards, mixing boards, mic stands, microphones, speakers and other equipment.

“They must have had a truck. They must have known it was in there. It's not like some kid smashed the window and grabbed a few things,” said Kohlmeyer. “We have a gig Friday at the Army Navy and we have no equipment.”

“This is years of acquiring stuff. It takes a long time to raise enough money to buy seven grand worth of gear,” she said, adding they normally are “religious” about not leaving gear in the van.

Kohlmeyer has been performing for 30 years and between the low pay from live venues to the theft of the equipment she is about ready to call it quits.

Kohlmeyer has contacted police who are investigating the theft.
