ORIGINAL: 5 a.m.

Matrix Savage Gathergood will make his first appearance in a Salmon Arm court room Tuesday morning.

Gathergood is charged with first degree murder in the April 14 death of 78-year-old Gordon Parmenter.

Parmenter was shot to death inside the Church of Christ.

The Salmon Arm church was hosting an event when a lone gunman opened fire, killing Parmenter and seriously injured a second man, Paul Derkach.

Parishioners eventually wrestled the gunman to the ground, and held him until police arrived.

A GoFundMe campaign has raised more than $18,000 for Parmenter's widow, Peggy.
