The identity of a 29-year-old woman who was found floating face down in Okanagan Lake on Sunday has been released by police.

Police are still investigating the sudden death and are reaching out to the public to determine her movements before she was found dead.

Caitlin Midori Bradley of Surrey was found by a young boy who entered the water to go for a swim at about 2:20 p.m. at Boyce-Gyro Beach Park.

Her body was removed from the shore and taken to be investigated further by RCMP. Social media accounts say she lived in Kelowna at one point. 

Now, RCMP and the BC Coroners Service are continuing to investigate the circumstances which surrounded Bradley’s death and are working to establish a timeline before her death.

“Retracing Bradley’s movements leading up to her death will be one of the priorities for our investigators and we urge anyone who may be able to assist us with this to contact us immediately,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

Investigators do not believe criminality was involved and the death has not yet been officially classified.

No further details have been released by police about a female body that was found floating face down in Okanagan Lake on Sunday.

Castanet reached out to RCMP on Monday morning and was told we will be given an update once it becomes available.

The age or identity of the female body has not been released and police removed the body for further investigations Sunday evening.

It is not clear if the death was accidental or suspicious.

UPDATE 8:25 p.m.

A section of Boyce-Gyro Beach Park remains closed on Sunday night after a young boy made a gruesome discovery when he went for a swim in Okanagan Lake.

Police removed a female body that was found floating face down just after 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Investigators left the scene at about 6 p.m. and a white Honda car was towed from the scene. 

Two police cruisers sit blocking the scene and yellow police tape sections off the area.

No further details about the deceased have been released only that she is a female.

UPDATE: 5:45 p.m.  

Police officer on scene tell Castanet further investigations need to be done on a female body that was found floating in Okanagan Lake. 

Investigators confirm it was a female body and it has since been removed from the shore. 

They cannot say if the death is suspicious at this time and said they will be conducting more investigations..

A white Honda car is being towed from the scene.

UPDATE: 3:46 p.m.

Emergency crews rushed to Boyce-Gyro Beach Park after a body was discovered floating in the waters of Okanagan Lake. 

Kelowna RCMP received a report of a person floating face down in the Okanagan Lake just off the shore of Gyro Beach. 

The BC Coroners Service is now on scene to conduct an investigation.

“The investigation remains in its early stages at this time, as police work alongside the coroner to identify the deceased,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey. “Once the individual is identified, our next priority will be to properly notify their next of kin.”

Gyro Beach remains closed at this time to allow emergency crews to access the scene. 

The beach will remain closed for a number of hours to allow police and coroners to conduct their investigation.

“We would greatly appreciate it if the general public would avoid the immediate area at this time,” said Cpl. O’Donaghey.

UPDATE: 3:30 p.m.

Police have removed a body from Okanagan Lake on Sunday and are investigating.

Kelowna resident Len Toepfer and his wife were sitting on the beach when a young boy discovered something in the water. 

“The young boy down there was going down for a swim and then he stopped at the water’s edge and turned around and called his family down,” said Toepfer. 

As they were sitting on a bench they noticed a purse that was left alone and told police  

“Pretty dramatic you know, Kelowna is supposed to be a safe little place. For a person to be at the bottoms of the lake out there... it’s not good,” said Toepfer. 

No details about age or if the body is a male or female has been released. It’s not clear if it is being investigated as suspicious either. 

A large section of the beach, park and parking lot have been taped off by police. 

Officers were investigating a white car parked in the parking lot.
