Firebug burning school

RCMP are investigating a series of suspicious fires in Vancouver Island.

Nanaimo RCMP are investigating a series of eight fires all at the same elementary school which appear to be deliberately set.

The fires were set at Brechin Elementary this month one of which forced the evacuation of the school on April 3.

CTV News is reporting that when firefighters responded they found a smoke-filled basement which activated the water sprinklers leading to both smoke and water damage totalling close to $5,000.

So far no arrests have been made but the search for the firebug is ongoing.

"These fires are very troubling and have resulted in the school having to put extra security in place to patrol the school and grounds after hours," said Nanaimo RCMP Const. Gary O'Brien.
