Bernier heading to Kelowna

As time continues to tick down towards a fall federal election, the Okanagan will get a visit from its first federal party leader.

Maxime Bernier, leader of the upstart People's Party of Canada, will spend two days in Kelowna at the end of next month.

Bernier is scheduled to touch down in Kelowna the evening of Thursday, May 23.

A news release states he'll attend several events the following day, including a fundraising dinner featuring Greenpeace co-founder Patrick Moore.

The following day, Bernier will tour UBC Okanagan before attending a rally at Pioneer Town at the end of Pioneer Road in Kelowna.

Bernier finished a close second to Andrew Sheer in the Conservative Party leadership race in 2017.

Last September, less than a month after leaving the Conservative Party, Bernier formed the People's Party of Canada.
