Korczak off to worlds

Kelowna Rockets defenceman Kaeden Korczak will compete at the Under-18 World Hockey Championships in Örnsköldsvik and Umeå, Sweden.

The championships begin Thursday and run through April 28.

Korczak suited up for a pair of pre-tournament games against Belarus and Russia. He registered a pair of assists in Canada's 6-5 overtime win over Belarus.

He has worn the Maple Leaf twice previously. He helped Canada win gold at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup last summer, and played for Canada Black at the 2017 Under-17 Challenge.

Canada has brought home a medal seven times at the under-18 championship, including three gold medals in 2003, 2008 and 2013.

They have been held off the podium the last three years.

Korczak and his teammates open up the tournament Thursday against Finland, before meeting Switzerland, Belarus and the Czech Republic to close out the preliminary round.
