Polson may host fireworks

The night sky above Polson Park may once again be lit up on Canada Day.

David Frost with the North Okanagan Canada Day Society, was in council chambers Monday asking the city to consider moving the explosive show back to the downtown park.

For the past two years, the fireworks show has been held at Kin Beach and for two years prior to that they were held at Kal Beach.

But because of the number of people who attend the fireworks, Canada day board members want to move the show back to the park.

Frost said so many people attend the event, the committee would like to have a venue where they could provide entertainment leading up to the show.

“It can safely been done,” said Frost.

The fireworks have been held in the park before, but was moved away because of safety concerns.

Frost said he has not talked to fire Chief David Lind yet as he wanted council's approval first.

“I think it's a great idea moving it to Polson Park, we can keep people there are all day, all the vendors are there,” said Coun. Akbal Mund.

City staff will prepare a report for council and the request will be addressed at the next scheduled city council meeting.
