Shotgun pointed at head

UPDATE 10 a.m.

Police swarmed a neighbourhood near Kelowna General Hospital Friday morning after a shotgun was pointed at a man in an apparent dispute over garbage can placement.

Police were called to the area near Richter Street and Birch Avenue just after 8 a.m. after a man was reportedly threatened with a shotgun by one of his neighbours.

The neighbours live adjacent to each other in the laneway between Birch and Christleton Avenues and for a few weeks, C, who asked to remain anonymous, had been asking his neighbour not to put garbage cans in front of his home on garbage days, as it blocks his parking area.

Evidence of the brewing argument can be seen in the taped signs on the garbage cans asking to not block the parking area.

“Stop putting garbage cans in front of our house. Got a problem, come talk to me,” the signs read.
“P.S. tired of picking garbage up off ground. “

Friday morning, the garbage cans were once again in front of C’s house, and he once again asked the woman living next door to not put them there. C’s wife says the woman’s partner must have “gotten up on the wrong side of the bed” and soon showed up at C’s door and pointed a shotgun at his head.

No shots were fired and the man left. Police were called and RCMP officers soon swarmed the area carrying rifles.

Paul MacDougall, with the Kelowna RCMP, says "a male suspect has been taken into custody and the investigation is continuing."
