So, you think you can sing?

A popular open-mic event has returned as the Okanagan Singer-Songwriter Competition.

Formerly known as the Lake Country Open Mic, founder Jennifer Boal says the eighth annual event is back with a new name.

Spotlighting original songwriters, the winners will receive multiple performance opportunities throughout the Okanagan, as well as professional studio recording time.

Boal is a high-school math and science teacher, but also has "a huge passion for songwriting and performing ... but, even more so, I really enjoy helping musicians spotlight their talent."

Venues include Lake Country Coffee House on March 28, Marmalade Cafe (Kelowna) on April 4, Lake Country Coffee House April 11, Marmalade Cafe (Kelowna) April 18, and the finals (location to be announced) on April 27.

Past participants have gone on to perform at West Kelowna's Music in the Park, Kelowna's Parks Alive, Lake Country's LIVE in Lake Country and ArtWalk, Vernon's Sunshine Festival, and Armstrong's Interior Provincial Exhibition.

Two past finalists have even gone on to record in Nashville (Michael Painchaud, now known as Michael Daniels) and have made it to the top 100 of CBC's Searchlight music contest (Shaedan Hawse).
