Pee wees fall in OT

The Kelowna Rockets AAA Pee Wee's came within a whisker of moving on to the quarter-finals at the Quebec International Pee Wee hockey tournament.

Four seconds in fact.

The Rockets fell 4-3 in overtime to the New York Rangers, the top pee wee team in the U.S. Thursday morning.

Kelowna had the puck in the offensive end with just under eight seconds left and leading 3-2. They were called for an intentional offside, bringing the faceoff into their end with 7.6 seconds left.

With the goalie on the bench for an extra attacker, New York won the faceoff and scored with a shot from the point with four seconds left.

They won it two-minutes into the third on a power play.

Kelowna held one goal leads on three different occasions, but were unable to get the crucial second goal. They led 1-0 after one and the game was tied at 1-1 after 40 minutes.

Lynden Lakovic scored twice for Kelowna, including a goal at 12:13 of the third that briefly gave the locals a 3-2 lead.

Maddix McCagherty scored the other goal for Kelowna.

The Kelowna pee wee's have an exhibition game scheduled for Friday before heading home on the weekend.
