Concrete plant up in flames

Fire destroyed a concrete plant in Sooke Sunday evening.

The blaze roared only metres from a local school.

"There are many complexities when dealing with a incident like this” Fire Chief Kenn Mount told CTV News. “Explosions, heavy equipment, power lines that were compromised, and trying to access it from the school side to deal with the trees on fire.”

Several area fire departments responded to the blaze, which took hours to extinguish.

Fire investigators combed through the debris on Monday, but a cause has yet to be determined. Fork lifts, Bobcats and other machinery were also destroyed in the blaze.

No one was at the facility when the fire broke out.
