The Kelowna Rocket AAA Pee Wee's got off to a resounding start at the annual Quebec International Pee Wee Hockey Tournament.
The Kelowna squad built up a 4-0 lead, then scored five unanswered in the third in a convincing 10-3 victory over the Adirondack Junior Red Wings.
It was an auspicious debut for the Kelowna squad, making its first appearance at the prestigious tournament in 15 years.
Kelowna built a 2-0 lead in the first on goals from Jaxsin Vaughan and Seth Tansem. They extended the lead to 4-0 five minutes into the second, before the Jr. Wings hit the board with three goals by the 11-minute mark of the second.
Leading 5-3 heading into the final 20 minutes, Kelowna put it away with five goals in a span of five-and-a-half minutes midway through the period.
Ryder Ritchie led the way with a goal and three assists. Tansem and Aiden Bruce both had a pair of goals while Maddix McCagherty chipped in with four assists.
Connor Nicolson started in goal for Kelowna. Dylan Adams came in late in the second.
The Kelowna squad have a few exhibition games lined up for the next few days before their next game Thursday morning at 5 a.m. Pacific Time against the number one team in the U.S., the New York Rangers.
A win would send them into Friday's quarter-final.
