Giving a damn for charity

The rebranded 100 Men Who Give a Damn will gather again this week to dole out more cash to a worthy charity.

After raising more than $230,000 during three years as a men's only organization, the newly named 100 Heroes Who Give a Damn will hold a second all-inclusive event Wednesday at the Jaguar Land Rover dealership.

The first co-gender event last November raised $18,600 for the Kelowna Foundation for Hope and Social Innovation, an increase of more than 140 per cent from previous events.

“We are so incredibly grateful to have been connected to the 100 Heroes group. The donation of $18,600 is so valuable to a project like this," said executive director Ginny Baker.

"As the capital campaign continues, every single dollar we raise is being dedicated to this extraordinary project and ultimately to helping vulnerable children in our community. Almost as valuable is the community exposure that the 100 Heroes event has brought to our cause. "

While the name has changed, the premise has not. It's a group of people who get together four times a year to give back to their community.

Attendees are asked to each bring $100 and hear pitches from three local charities. They then vote on who will receive funds from everyone in attendance.

Wednesday's event begins at 5 p.m.
