Morning fire at city yards

Employees arriving for work at Penticton city yards Tuesday morning came across a smouldering fire.

Penticton Fire Department deputy chief Chris Forster says they were called to the yards on Dartmouth Road shortly after 5 a.m. for a small fire.

“It created more smoke than actual flame damage,” he said. “There wasn’t any real damage to the building, it was more like tables and chairs.”

City spokesman Philip Cooper confirmed the fire occurred within an electrical work bay area and damaged workplace clothing and furniture.

An investigator is on site today trying to determine the cause of the blaze.
