Lakeside rink ready

Chelsea Powrie

It's not too cold outside, but that doesn't mean the Penticton Lakeside Resort's outdoor skating rink is closed — in fact, conditions are perfect for a visit.

The small rink is on the resort's private beach, making for a beautiful view.

"Being outside, and being on a skating rink is just such a great Canadian thing, and we're super proud to have the rink," said Lakeside Resort event coordinator Erin Moore.

And the rink is open to the public, outside of any private bookings for parties or events.

"You just have to check in at the front desk," Moore said. "We just want to get everybody out. We build it every year and hope that little people and big people will come and skate."

She said it's ideal for kids to practice skating or come and play some hockey. The ice isn't dependant on the air temperature either, so milder days are a great time to take advantage of the space.

"We have a generator, it's got a full cooling system. It has to be above 10 degrees for it to melt," Moore said. "So this weather is ideal, it's not cold, it's wonderful to come out and use the rink, and it's not windy, it's perfect."

The rink is open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. Private parties can be booked for a fee, with more information available here.
