He's cut out for the job

He may be quiet, but he sure is effective.

Meet Kelowna RCMP Constable Warren Ning, the Municipal Traffic Section’s newest recruit.

Const. Ning, a life-sized cutout, has taken his first post in school zones across the Central Okanagan school district, in order to slow speeders.

''He is based on a successful initiative that was based out of the Lower Mainland," said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey. "Their version of Const. Warren Ning was very successful at slowing speeders in their municipality. We took notice of that and thought it would be an excellent initiative to take on."

Cpl. O'Donaghey says since Const. Ning has been on the job, RCMP have seen a significant reduction in speeders.

The life-sized officer cutout was produced by a sign shop in Kelowna.

Even if drivers aren’t fooled by Const. Ning, an officer may often be hidden nearby with a laser speed gun, ready to stop motorists.

''He is here to stay. We have several of these that have been created and strategically placed at schools throughout the Central Okanagan and they will be rotated as the weeks progress," Cpl. O'Donaghey added.
