Serial bank robber arrested

A bank robber believed to be linked to 11 recent robberies, was caught in the act over the weekend.

Two plainclothes VPD officers noticed a man enter a downtown Vancouver bank and commit a robbery Sunday afternoon.

Darwin McGrath, 50, was arrested with stolen money shortly after he left the bank. He remains in custody and has been charged with one count of robbery.

The officers "went beyond the call and brought an end to a series of dangerous robberies that were continuing at an alarming rate,” says Sgt. Jason Robillard. “Although no physical injuries were reported in any of the robberies, these types of crimes can be emotionally distressing  for anyone involved.”

Additional charges against McGrath are anticipated for bank robberies across Metro Vancouver and Surrey.
