Man rammed, fled police

A man believed to be connected to a group responsible for circulating counterfeit U.S. bills has been arrested by Princeton RCMP after fighting to evade arrest.

On Dec. 12, police located a suspect vehicle in Coalmont who was believed to be involved with passing on fake $50 U.S. bills in the area. The vehicle fled into the mountains, where Princeton and Merritt RCMP members and a dog service team contained the area.

The driver attempted to evade police, ramming a police vehicle with his own and fleeing on foot. He hid along a river bank until he was apprehended by the dog task force.

The 49-year-old male was arrested and charged with assaulting a police officer and flight from the police.

A search warrant was prepared and executed for a travel trailer that belonged to the accused, which may be further evidence in the counterfeit case against this man.

He is believed to be one of four people involved in the group from Vancouver Island, and was released on a recognizance with conditions after a court appearance Dec. 14.
