Pipe work's no blast

Construction work for a new sewage pipeline in a Victoria neighbourhood is no blast for residents.

Blasting along Dallas Road in Ogden Point is causing damage to homes, CTV News reports.

"It's been a bit intense," Katherine St. Denis told CTV. "The blasting has been very loud, and it's shaken the windows, and sometimes it feels like things are going to implode."

The pipeline will eventually move wastewater to a treatment plant in Esquimalt.

Tim Spackman says the blasting is taking a toll on his home.

"I've noted, I think, 13 areas where I've seen a combination of baseboards being pulled away, mouldings that are loose (and) pillars," he told CTV. "I'd have to ask about the wisdom of saying we're going to blast 20 feet from somebody's primary residence."

The contractor says it's monitoring the blasts, and the Capital Regional District says the company, Windley Contracting, undertakes pre-and post-blast surveys.

The contractor's insurer is meeting with residents to discuss their concerns.
