Cheese lovers in luck

Kelowna is known for its wine. And what goes well with wine? Cheese.

And what does Kelowna not currently have? A shop that sells cheese exclusively.

Actually, that just changed when Desiree Young and husband Philip Perseval launched Perseval & Young Cheesemongers. It is primarily an online venture at the moment, save for pop-up events, while Young and her husband search for a building to house their new business.

“We have delis here, but we don’t have a cheese shop,” Young said. “So, we’ve had a lot of communication with city hall. They’re really excited about what we’re doing. They’re completely on board. So within this marketing year, it’s really about finding out where we should be in the city, where we should open up a cheese shop.”

Until that mission is complete, Perseval & Young will continue to serve some of the finest cheese in the Okanagan.

“We’re trying to bring in cheeses that you can’t get anywhere in town,” Young said. “We want the fine cheese, and we’re going to be focusing on about 70 per cent Canadian and 30 per cent European. We want high-standard products. We want artisan, farmstead products. We just want to focus on finer cheese, and it’s just not offered right now.”
